Use this page to retrieve the password for scrambled local account on a replaced computer. Replaced computers are computers that have been decommissioned and typically are in a workshop on a bench, with a fault being investigated, which requires the engineer to log on.

To retrieve the password of a replaced account
1. If enabled, select the Platform type from the list.
2. If enabled, either type in the account name or select it from the list.
3. In the Reason field enter the reason for retrieving the password.
4. Select the computer
- In the Hostname field enter the hostname of the replaced computer or
- In the Host ID field enter the host id of the replaced computer or
- In the Serial Number field enter the serial number of the replaced computer
5. In the Reason field enter the reason for retrieving the password.
6. Click Search.
If a single computer is found matching the criteria, the remaining Hostname, Host ID and Serial Number fields are completed by the system.
7. Click Retrieve Password.
8. Click OK on the confirmation dialog
If successful, the password will appear alongside the Password field, overtyping the asterisks, along with an information message.
If password retrieval fails, an Error message is displayed, explaining why the retrieval is not possible.
If a host has been replaced many times and the hostname is the only selection criteria specified, the error message there are multiple hosts matching this criteria is displayed.
If this occurs, click Reports, click General and run the Computer Details report having entered a where clause to match the hostname. All replaced computers are shown matching this hostname, along with their Host IDs.

The date when the computers were first commissioned is shown in the whenCreated field. Here, the first occurrence of the hostname is hostid 9. This hosted can be used as an argument in the Password Vault Replaced Computers Page to narrow the selection to that instance.
