The Housekeeping Scheduler is used to check if Windows Domain Computers in the database still exist. It does this by checking the LDAP record still exists in the domain Active Directory.
In normal circumstances if a domain computer is deleted or taken off line the ForestSafe status will become NOT RESPONDING or FAILURE. The last housekeeping entry OTHERS will be sufficient in these circumstances to keep ForestSafe up to date.
In the panel, there are 3 groups of target status: OKAY, NEUTRAL and OTHERS. In normal operation of the system there will be large numbers of computers in the first 2 groups, and very few in the OTHERS state. These are typically FAILURE and NOT REPONDING, and most likely to be where deleted computers are found.
The Enabled checkbox must be checked for that housekeeping item to run. The When to Repeat field sets the date and time when the Housekeeping is next set to run, and the Repeat Every field how often the schedule will run. The When to Repeat fields also gets updated by the system, and always show the next invocation time.
Note: The CYCLESCHEDLER Global Setting controls how often the Housekeeping checks for schedules to run. To prevent thread starvation when a number of ForestSafe services are deployed, the system randomizes the time delay by adding a random number of milliseconds up to the delay length. The maximum overall time is therefore twice the CYCLESCHEDULER. This effects the When To Repeat times shown, they will change irregularly. This is intended system behaviour.
